The precision of estimating intraclass correlation coefficient theta a
nd of heritability coefficient h(2) is determined not only by the tota
l sample size N, but also by the structure of the sample. These proble
ms are discussed on basis of expected half width of exact confidence i
ntervals. As well in case, that a priori information concerning h(2) o
r theta is known as in case that no such information is available, rec
ommendations are derived.
