Ma. Akkus et al., Nonspecific ulcerated jejunitis as an unusual complication of laparoscopiccholecystectomy: Report of a case, SURG TODAY, 30(3), 2000, pp. 277-281
We describe herein the case of a 65-year-old man in whom a lower gastrointe
stinal hemorrhage developed a few days after he underwent an elective lapar
oscopic cholecystectomy. A laparotomy was performed on postoperative day 16
and a jejunal segment containing mucosal changes and oozing ulcers was res
ected. Pathologic examination of the specimen revealed "nonspecific ulcerat
ed jejunitis." There is mo explanation for the etiopathogenesis of this pat
hology; however, we concluded that this clinical picture may be attributed
to ischemia-reperfusion injury that occurred following an ischemic period c
aused by the pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopic surgery.
