Abstract
Tropihalacarus gen. nov. is described to accommodate Tropihalacarus spio sp . nov. from Australia and the New Caledonian species T. longirostris (Barts ch), which was previously assigned to Thalassacarus Newell. The species Tro pihalacarus spio sp. nov., of which the female, male and deutonymph are her e described, was found in shallow, sandy deposits of the Great Barrier Reef . Characters by which I: longirostris and T. spio differ are listed.
