Short-lived exotic nuclei have been produced by projectile fragmentation of
relativistic bismuth projectiles. The masses of more than hundred neutron-
deficient nuclei, whose mass was unknown before, have been determined by usi
ng the Schottky Mass Spectrometry. This paper concentrates on nuclear-struc
ture properties, which can be derived from ground-state masses such as shel
l effects, proton-separation energies and proton-pairing energies.
