Abstract
A new section in the genus Lactarius, Edules Verbeken sect. nov., is propos ed for the African species Lactarius aureifolius Verbeken, L. densifolius V erbeken & Karhula, L. edulis Verbeken & Buyck, L. inversus Gooss.-Font & R. Heim, L. latifolius Gooss.-Font & R. Helm (syn.: L. cinnamomeus Gooss.-Fon t. & R. Helm) and L. phlebo-phyllus R. Heim. A check-list of the species is given, together with descriptions of Lactarius aureifolius, L. densifolius and L, latifolius. In addition, an updated list is given of all tropical A frican Lactarius species reported to be eaten by local populations.
