A systematic study of the synthesis conditions in correalation with low-tem
perature magnetic properties is reported in 1-(3-aminophenyl)-1H-methanoful
lerene(C-60)-(Cp2Co) (APhCo) and 1-(3-nitrophenyl)-1H-methanofullerene(C-60
)- (Cp2Co) (NiPhCo), with a Curie temperature of T-c = 15 K; the latter is
a newly discovered fullerene ferromagnet. The crystallisation conditions ar
e found to play a critical role in determining the low-temperature ferromag
netic properties of these fullerene charge-transfer ferromagnets. (C) 2000
