Abstract
For the first time, over 1W of optical power has been coupled into singlemo de fibre from a single semiconductor laser diode operating at 1.45 mu m. Th is device meets the need for a compact high power source for pumping of erb ium-doped Fibre amplifiers and for Raman amplification in fibres.
