Abstract
A low-power variable length decoder which exploits the statistics of succes sive codewords is presented. The decoder employs a small look-up table work ing as a fixed cache to reduce the number of activations of a variable leng th code detector, a here most power is consumed. The power simulation resul ts estimated with Powermill show a 35% average reduction in energy compared with that of the previous low-power scheme.
