Abstract
The hemp in Poland is currently grown to produce both seeds and fibre. The fibre obtained in this way is usually coarse and is spun in the traditional way to produce high tex yams and relatively thick products (tarpaulin, twi ne, etc.). More effective use of hemp in the textile industry is possible p rovided the hemp is grown specifically and only for fibre (dense sowing, ea rly harvest). This allows one to obtain a thinner and more delicate fibre w hich, after proper preparation, can be transformed into a cotton- or wool-l ike fibre. This paper presents mechanical and chemical cottonization proces ses for different hemp raw materials. The quality parameters of cottonized hemp fibre are given. In the evaluation the following parameters have been included: fibre thinness and staple.
