The effect of variable ratios of acrylonitrile to gelatine in the reaction
mixture on the structure and the moisture absorption characteristics and st
rength properties of fibres made of polyacrylonitrile-gelatine grafted copo
lymer has been examined. It has been found that with an increase in the rat
io in question the moisture absorption at 100% RH and the tenacity of the m
odified fibres also increase, while their water retention is decreased. The
moisture absorption characteristics of the fibres depend mainly on the cha
racter of the porous structure formed during the fibre spinning process. Th
e most favourable, in terms a fibre properties, ratio of acrylonitrile to g
elatine in the reaction mixture has been established.
