Analysis of the origin and evolution of the Tarim Platform allowed its vert
ical and lateral zoning.
The geodynamic history of the platform involved three major stages correspo
nding to three major rock groups: the pre-Sinian metamorphic basement, the
lower part of the sedimentary cover represented by Sinian-Ordovician marine
facies intruded by rifting-related magmatic complexes, and the Silurian to
Cenozoic upper part of the sedimentary cover with the lower strata compose
d of marine and continental sediments intercalated with basaltic trapps and
the upper strata made up of continental sediments.
The sediment section of the Tarim Platform involves six stages: Sinian-Ordo
vician, Silurian-Devonian, Carboniferous-Permian, Triassic, Jurassic-Cretac
eous, and Tertiary, each differing in its specific structural framework.
