The technique of pyrolysis and its application in studying the organic matt
er (OM) of Mesozoic sediments in the Yenisei-Khatanga and northeastern Pur-
Taz petroliferous areas are described. The plots T-max-R-o (vitrinite refle
ctance) obtained on a "Rock-Eval" device and on a pyrolyzer designed at the
UIGGM are compared. The limiting T-max values for various zones of OM cata
genesis are determined, and the standard curve T-max-D (depth) for the stud
ied areas is constructed. The applied technique permitted revealing depth z
oning of OM catagenesis in many drilling areas which could not be studied e
arlier for Lack of the necessary OM.
