Abstract
Helical magnets are being built for the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RH IC) to act as Snakes and Rotators in a planned program of polarized collidi ng beam experiments, After a successful R&D program, production; is underwa y to build the needed magnets. They are constructed as superconducting, 10 cm coil aperture units in which a 4 T dipole field rotates through 360 degr ees in a length of 2.4 m. Measurements have been made on the initial produc tion magnets, including training, magnetic fields, and quench propagation c haracteristics.
