Abstract
Large scare Cu-24%Ag plates have been developed for high field Bitter magne ts. Using these plates, we have succeeded in constructing a double Bitter m agnet for 30T hybrid magnet with 32mm room temperature bore. This double Bi tter magnet successfully generated 19T under the back-up field of 11.1T by a large bore superconducting magnet. A current and power for the water cool ed magnet are about 21.3kA and 6.9MW, respectively. Using this 30T hybrid magnet, we have performed crystal growth of NH4Cl in water levitated by a magnetic field. It has been turned out that only one c rystal grows in such levitating condition and nucleation of crystal is stro ngly suppressed in a magnetic field different from in the normal condition.
