T. Nitta et al., High response excitation control of superconducting generator for stability of superconducting field winding, IEEE APPL S, 10(1), 2000, pp. 935-938
Superconducting Generators (SCG's) can improve power system stability in st
eady state and also in transient state with a high response excitation. The
authors designed and made an experimental 100kVA SCG with high response ex
citation and carried out several experiments for power system stability usi
ng an artificial transmission lines. In this paper, a high response excitat
ion control of SCG considering stability of the superconducting field windi
ng is discussed and tested. A proposed control system has limiter(Over Exci
tation Limiter : GEL) functions for not only the field current but also for
its differential-value (voltage). These factors affect a design of the fie
ld windings. Transient stability tests were performed by using the test gen
erator and the artificial transmission lines with and without the proposed
excitation control. The effects of the proposed control on the transient st
ability were studied.
