Abstract
The reaction of 1,3-propanedithiol with [Ru-3(CO)(10)(mu-dppe)] (2) at 66 d egrees C afforded the thiolate complexes [(mu-H)Ru-3(CO)(8){mu-S(CH2)(3)SH} (mu-dppe)] (6) and [Ru-3(CO)(5){mu(2)-S(CH2)(3)S}(2)(eta(2)-dppe)] (7) in 2 5 and 23% yields respectively. Compound 6 is formed by simple oxidative add ition of one of the S-H bonds of 1,3-propanedithiol while the structurally unique 7 consists of an open triruthenium cluster with four terminal and on e asymmetrically bridged carbonyl groups, two doubly bridged propanedithiol ate ligands and a chelating dppe ligand.
