Abstract
The main problems of the functional-ecological geography of soils that deserve active development are considered. Among the first-priority t asks are the following: (1) origination of the theoretic basis of the functional-ecological geography of soils; (2) further development of t he concept of the ecological functions of soils; (3) application of th e functional-ecological approach in soil mapping with the use of moder n techniques; (4) compilation of the Red Book of Soils and other activ ities.
