We have measured electronic Raman transitions involving the I-4(9/2) a
nd I-4(13/2) multiplets of Nd3+ in Nd2CuO4 single crystals as a functi
on of 14 T. To account for the main features of 4f excitations observe
d we have used a single-ion Hamiltonian including the crystal field po
tential, the exchange interaction Nd-Cu and a Zeeman term as well as s
tandard second-order theory of Raman intensities.
