Abstract
General regularities in the Holocene evolution of chernozems within th e steppe zone of the south of Ukraine, in Central Chernozemic oblast, the Trans-Uralian region, and northern Kazakhstan are considered. Chan ges in chemozems of the Trans-Uralian region within the last 4000 year s are elucidated. Common features and distinctions between the evoluti on of chernozems in Eastern Europe, northern Kazakhstan, and the Trans -Uralian region are analyzed.
