Abstract
Several approaches to estimating soil microbial diversity are consider ed historically. The influence of different environmental factors on t he structure and functioning of bacteria communities in soils is convi ncingly demonstrated. Diverse types of bacterial communities are Shown to be inherent in soils of various natural climatic zones.
