Abstract
We examine how the academic labor market is racially segmented along geogra phic and disciplinary lines. Results from a national survey indicate that b lack faculty in the sciences and engineering are found disproportionately i n Southern, historically black institutions, areas with sizable black popul ations, and, independent of the black doctoral labor supply, in certain fie lds.
