Abstract
In this paper a new approach is proposed for the determination of resonance characteristics of leaky guiding structures. We show that in the conventio nal transfer matrix approach some modifications are needed for the descript ion of leaky structures. Our approach is based on resonance considerations and does not make recourse to complex propagation constants. It is applied to hollow and ARROW waveguides. We have used this approach for the optimiza tion of the vertical LEDs based on SiGe.
