Abstract
The reaction of rhodium trichloride with beta-(tetraphenyl)tetraphenyl porp hyrin, H-2(tpp)(Ph)(4), and beta-(tetraphenyl)tetrakismesityl porphyrin, H- 2(tmp)(Ph)(4), in refluxing benzonitrile gave novel rhodium porphyrin chlor ides, m-cyanophenyl and imine complexes. The m-cyanophenyl and imine comple xes were formed from chloride complexes by arene C-H activation via electro philic aromatic substitution and reductive nucleophilic addition with the s olvent benzonitrile.
