Abstract
An extremely simple processing route has been used to produce LaPO4 (La-mon azite)/alumina continuous fiber-reinforced ceramic composites. In this pape r, the processing, microstructure and tensile properties are reviewed. In p articular, the damage tolerance and notch insensitivity of this system, whi ch contains monazite-coated fibers, will be compared to the properties repo rted for other oxide composites.
