Abstract
A hermetic seal was achieved between a modified stainless-steel 1/2 in. SWA GELOK fitting and a 1/2 in. x 1.5 mm soda-lime glass tube. The seal was mad e at room temperature by compressing indium wire, sheet or pellets into a s pace between the outer wall of the glass tube and the conical sealing surfa ce of the fitting. Using a helium leak detector, the leak rate between room temperature and 150 degrees C was determined to be less than 10(-9) TorrL s(-1). (C) 2000 American Vacuum Society. [S0734-2101(00)09802-X].
