Abstract
On September 6,1996 winds from Hurricane From downed trees throughout the P iedmont region of North Carolina and thereby provided abundant substrate fo r the development of polypore fungi. Two forested tracts in Wake Co, NC, to taling 115 hectares, were surveyed for polypore fungi. A 100% sampling of t hese tracts was completed during the first year after the hurricane. Fifty- eight polypore species representing 37 genera in five families were recorde d on 24 taxa of woody plants. Five of these fungi are reported for the firs t time in North Carolina. Fourteen of the host-fungus associations are new reports for the United States.
