Extensive investigation of polycrystalline pyridinium hexafluorophosph
ate and its perdeuterated analog was performed by neutron scattering,
NMR, and dielectric methods in a wide temperature range. The results o
f different spectroscopic methods enabled us to propose a general mode
l of both ion reorientations and to determine their activation paramet
ers. The aging effects observed slightly change the hindering barriers
and significantly affect the phase transition temperature and the pyr
idinium cation dynamics. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
