Abstract
A Stefan problem associated with the Burgers equation is considered. The pr oblem is reduced to a nonlinear integral equation which is analysed and sho wn to have a unique solution. The system admits a shock solution which trav els with the same velocity as that of the free boundary. AMS classification scheme numbers: 35G25, 35J10.
