Storm phobia: A North Atlantic phenomenon

University psychiatry does not always pay attention to more rustic and mari time aspects of psychiatry. In the North Atlantic area fear of nature's for ces may be seen as a part of transcultural knowledge. On the Faroe Islands phobia of winter storms is well known. The phenomenon is illustrated by som e cases, and some treatment possibilities are outlined.
