Abstract
A twin-core polymer optical fiber doped with a conjugated biochemical beta- carotene is fabricated for all-optical fiber switching. Nonlinear coupling and optical switching are observed between the two cores of the fiber. Expe rimental results are analyzed based on the coupled-mode theory and the nonl inear effects of this fiber were examined. (C) 2000 Society of Photo-Optica l Instrumentation Engineers.
