We study contradirectional couplers composed of two linearly coupled nonlin
ear Kerr waveguides. Intensity-dependent equations of motion are approximat
ely solved, using a short-length coupler as an analogue of reference device
. It is demonstrated that the switching is accompanied by quantum effects,
such as two-mode squeezing of vacuum fluctuations and photon antibunching i
