Electron transition probability accompanying inner-shell vacancy production - art. no. 030501

An alternative approach for calculation of the electron excitation probabil ity accompanying inner-shell vacancy production is presented. The change in the central potential of the atom due to the creation of an inner-shell va cancy is estimated and the electron transition probability between two shel ls is calculated treating this change as the perturbation. The calculated r esults are in agreement with the shake-up probabilities using the wave-func tion overlap and the experimental values.
