This paper deals with several issues related to the strength of curvature s
ingularities (a notion originally defined by Tipler). First, we construct a
simple example of a spacetime which admits a strong curvature singularity
even though the metric tensor is C-0 and nondegenerate. Second, we propose
a slightly modified definition of a strong singularity (to which we refer a
s a deformationally strong singularity), which better captures the physical
essence of the strength. Finally, we show that a necessary condition for (
Tipler's) strong singularities, formulated by Clarke and Krolak, is also ap
plicable to deformationally strong singularities.
