V. Climent et al., Peripheral cholesterol embolization in a procedure of percutaneous coronary angioplasty. Report of a case, REV ESP CAR, 53(3), 2000, pp. 464-466
Cholesterol embolism is a rare but potentially serious complication of card
iac catheterization. We report the case of a patient who presented a choles
terol embolism in the lower extremities after percutaneous angioplasty and
the elective implantation of a stent. Clinical evolution was favourable. Th
e appearance of cholesterol embolism could have been precipitated, in this
case, by anticoagulation treatment with heparin and intense antiagregation.
