We investigated the effects of four dressings on donor sites of split thick
ness skin grafts. Eighty patients undergoing elective split thickness skin
grafting were randomly allocated to one of four groups. The dressings were
paraffin gauze, polyurethane foam, polyethane film, and polyurethane film.
The main outcome measures were pain and discomfort, healing of donor sites,
and time to remove dressings. Polyurethane film caused less pain and disco
mfort and was also easiest to remove. There were no differences in healing
among the four groups.
