Abstract
This paper presents a new position sensor based on ultraacoustic standing w aves in FeSiB amorphous wires. The generation of ultraacoustic standing wav es and the measurement of their amplitude are both based on the magnetostri ctive effect in these materials. The position determination is accomplished by measuring the amplitude of standing waves in corresponding position alo ng the active length of the sensor. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A.
