We report the first experimental evidence of the existence of extended
states in one-dimensional random potentials. Our results are obtained
by investigating photoconductivity and optical absorption of GaAs/(Al
Ga)As disordered superlattices. The experimental results agree with th
e numerical and analytical predictions, thus indicating the possibilit
y to design narrow bands of extended states at selected energies in di
sordered superlattices. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
