Abstract
In this paper, we present new cytological observations on the Diprionidae a nd a review of the available data in the literature. This ascertains that m ost of the species cytogenetically known have seven metacentric chromosomes . These data support the hypothesis of chromosome number doubling in the ge nus Diprion by centric fission.
