For the last five years, inventories have been carried out on the aquatic f
reshwater fauna of the Island of Reunion. Three Macrobrachium species have
been captured: Macrobrachium lar (Fabricius, 1798), Macrobrachium australe
(Guerin Meneville, 1838), and, for the first time on Reunion, Macrobrachium
lepidactylus (Hilgendorf, 1879). A commentary follows, discussing the abse
nce of Macrobrachium hirtimanus (Olivier, 1811) in the samples collected, d
espite the fact that it is an endemic species in the Mascarenes, and descri
bing the ecological characteristics of the habitats of M. lepidactylus and
M. hirtimanus.
