Pj. Kaisaki et al., Detailed comparative gene map of rat chromosome 1 with mouse and human genomes and physical mapping of an evolutionary chromosomal breakpoint, GENOMICS, 64(1), 2000, pp. 32-43
We report the localization of 92 new gene-based markers assigned to rat chr
omosome 1 by linkage or radiation hybrid mapping. The markers were chosen t
o enrich gene mapping data in a region of the rat chromosome known to conta
in several of the principal quantitative trait loci in rodent models of hum
an multifactorial disease. The composite map reported here provides map inf
ormation on a total of 139 known genes, including 80 that have been localiz
ed in mouse and 109 that have been localized in human, and integrates the g
ene-based markers with anonymous microsatellites. The evolutionary breakpoi
nts identifying 16 segments that are homologous regions in the human genome
are defined. These data will facilitate genetic and comparative mapping st
udies and identification of novel candidate genes for the quantitative trai
t loci that have been localized to the region. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
