Abstract
The effect of Ca2+ ions on the radiation-initiated reaction of free-radical fragmentation of dimyristoyl phosphatidylglycerol arranged as monolamellar and multilamellar liposomes was examined. It was found that the formation of the reaction products dimyristoyl phosphatidic acid and hydroxyacetone w as considerably reduced in the presence of Ca2+ ions at all gamma-irradiati on doses examined regardless of the type of model membranes.
