In this paper, an image refining technique is proposed. The digital waterma
rking and RS coding techniques are adopted to provide the image refining. T
he RS codewords' parities of original image are used as a watermark to be e
mbedded in the original image. The watermark can provide the error correcti
on and detection capability for the original image (refining function). Mea
nwhile, we take the advantage of the parity bits of rearranged DCT coeffici
ents in the lower frequency subbands of quantized DCT block to provide the
robustness and imperceptibility requirement for watermarking technique. The
proposed method can directly extract the embedded watermark from the water
marked image without using original image so as to implement it to the real
time system is feasible. The experimental results show that the error corr
ection and detection capability, imperceptibility, and robustness of the wa
termarking technique can be guaranteed.
