Despite the plethora of teaching materials that are available on the Intern
et to enhance geography higher education, few assessments of the effectiven
ess of these materials exist, This symposium collects papers that provide g
uidelines for using the Internet effectively for teaching geography. Studen
ts must learn how to use the Internet effectively to promote learning; inst
ructors need to lean? how to use the Internet effectively to promote good p
ractice ill higher education; instructors need to learn how to use the Inte
rnet effectively to enhance learning; and higher educators need to learn ho
w to use the Internet effectively not only in traditional classroom setting
s, but in new, non-traditional settings such as those used for distance lea
rning. These papers provide some assessment of these various aspects of usi
ng the Internet for reaching geography in higher education.
