Quantum-state control of an artificial two-level system was demonstrated in
a small-Josephson-junction device: a single- Cooper-pair boat With a highs
peed, but well-tailored, gate-voltage pulse, we nonadiabatically controlled
the time evolution of the quantum state, and observed coherent oscillation
s between the two levels. We present a detailed description of the experime
ntal conditions for the observation.
