Single-particle response functions for liquid D-2 and H-2, obtained from pr
evious inelastic neutron scattering measurements, are compared with an exac
t quantum calculation for D-2 and a Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) model f
or D-2 and H-2. The exact and WKB calculations both provide satisfactory de
scriptions of the experimental response function of these fluids over a wid
e range of momentum and energy transfers, which spans from the roto-vibrati
onal excitations up to the molecular dissociation regime.
