The present Paper deals with a formulation of structural system reliab
ility for the situations when the applied loads must be modelled as no
n-stationary processes. The structural systems considered herein may b
e modelled as having the structural material either of the ideal rigid
-plastic or of the linearly elastic type. In principle, the formulatio
n can be extended to other material descriptions. The main advantage o
f the presented formulation is that it allows the multi-dimensional in
tegral required for outcrossing rate computation to be reduced to a on
e-dimensional integral. The formulation is at the local member strengt
h level and this also has advantages. An example application is presen
ted and a comparison is given of the results for two kinds of structur
al material assumption.
