Calvino's literary creation, except inasmuch as Under the Jaguar Sun, on th
e five senses, lacks stories on sight and touch, seems all eye. Unless, as
a re-reading of Calvino's work through the auditory prism of "A King All Ea
rs" in that same work shows, such a perception is that of a hurried reader-
who needs to take the time to hear Calvino's eye as a listening one.
