Da. Atwood et al., THE USE OF 5-COORDINATE ALUMINUM ALKYLS TO PREPARE MOLECULES CONTAINING A SINGLE AL-O-SI LINKAGE, Organometallics, 16(12), 1997, pp. 2659-2664
The present work entails the synthesis and first structural characteri
zation of complexes possessing a single Al-O-Si linkage. These are of
the formula LAlOSiPh3 (L = Salen(Bu-t) (N,N'-ethylenebis(3, 5-di-tert-
butylsalicylideneimine)) (11); Salpen(Bu-t) -propylenebis(3,5-di-tert-
butylsalicylideneimine)) (12); Salophen(Bu-t) -phenylenebis(3,5-di-ter
t-butylsalicylideneimine)) (13); and Salomphen(Bu-t) phenylene)bis(3,5
-di-tert-butylsalicylideneimine)) (14). They are formed by combining t
he novel five-coordinate aluminum alkyl starting materials L(Bu-t)AIR
(where L = Salen(Bu-t), R = Me (1), Et (2), Bu-i (3); Salpen(Bu-t), R
= Me (4), Salophen(tBu)R = Me (5), Et (6), Bu-i (7); and Salomphen, R
= Me (8), Et (9), Bu-i (10)) with Ph3SiOH in toluene. All of the compo
unds were characterized spectroscopically and, in the case of 1, 10, 1
1, 12, and 13, by X-ray crystallography.
