Cd1-xMnxS diluted magnetic semiconductor ultrafine particles with size
s in the range 20 to similar to 1200 Angstrom and 0 less than or equal
to x less than or equal to 0.5 have been synthesized by using aqueous
solution precipitation. We find that size has a significant effect on
the magnetic spin-glass (SG) properties of these systems. The SG free
zing temperature T-f decreases with size, and there is a minimum size
below which the SG does not form. The field dependence of T-f and the
relaxation of the isothermal remanent magnetization are also significa
ntly different than in the bulk.
