Sputter-deposited TbFeN amorphous thin films were studied as a functio
n of the nitrogen content. The magnetic properties, especially the com
pensation temperature which results from the balance between two magne
tic sublattices, are very sensitive to nitrogen insertion. For increas
ing nitrogen concentrations, we found a large decrease in the compensa
tion temperature, due to the changes in the atomic environment of the
magnetic atoms.
